Fun and unexpected lime-green barn door

Clean, classy and casually elegant. This quaint farm house in Northern California's wine country transformed from nothing special to a fresh and happening showplace where the owners proudly bring world-class musicians and wine industry insiders.”

Begin with a historical farm house in the heart of Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley; add modern yet classic clean lines, with a bit of farm-implied whimsy. This fresh design approach is the signature design of Lorraine Alexander. Alexander’s keen sense of scale, practical use of space, and attention to detail, makes this project shine.

It all began with an extremely awkward floor plan that brought arriving guests directly on top of the master bedroom, eliminating any hope of privacy for the owners of this home. To remedy this design challenge, the entry was expanded to create a unique art gallery wall, allowing for privacy while adding a striking entrance to the threshold of this new master bedroom suite. Upon entering this quaint retreat for two, one is pleasantly surprised by an oversize lime-green barn door dressed with authentic barn hardware which now sets the stage
for this handsome wine country project.

Natural rock fireplace
This delightful master bedroom, now hosts an impressive natural rock fireplace flanked by two custom hardwood bookcases, transforming this once unappealing space into a warm haven-like retreat. Additionally, other key design elements were introduced to this farmland project such as custom wood cabinets and nightstands, distressed plank floors, and a stunning upholstered queen bed. Artful selection of colors and materials created a subtle balance of serenity and warmth, surrounded by a few surprising pops of intense color just for fun.

Farm-style soaking tub

Upon entering the master bath, attention is immediately drawn to a stunning European-style soaking tub reminiscent of an old farmhouse, cast with a fresh twist and contemporary line. The tub is showcased in a niche with a subtle arch that gently implies historical architecture. Ultra contemporary bath fixtures provide handsome contrast against the wood plank tub surround, which clearly resonates with this projects country setting. The massive shower has now become an experience of pure luxury for the owners of this home. Without doubt, this once seemingly small space has been transformed into a bold architectural statement that now glistens and reads to the senses as a much larger yet charming retreat-like master suite.

Custom bed and nightstands

Practical, functional, classic yet modern design, touched with unexpected farm-like whimsy. This project has tastefully achieved a handsome balance, while showing respect for the region, period and history of this fine home nestled in Sonoma’s County’s wine country.”
